To get a data governance program started on the right path or have a course correction for one which is already underway, I believe the following 10 guiding principles should be followed:<\/div>\n<div data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K-aN-_qPbe4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Data is a strategic\u00a0enterprise asset and should be managed as such<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Data governance is a program and a business discipline, not a project, which needs an ongoing investment, support, and exposure<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Data governance is the foundation upon all enterprise information initiatives are built<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Data governance and stewardship are a shared responsibility between business and IT<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">There is a common glossary with shared and\u00a0approved\u00a0business term and data definitions with a clear curatorship and ownership process<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">There is only one version of the truth for enterprise data which is actively managed and trustworthy<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Data management needs to comply with legal and regulatory requirements, internal policies, and follow industry best practices and standards<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Enterprise data\u00a0are accessible and understood by relevant roles as needed in order to carry out their duties<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Accountability for different data management practices is clearly defined, assigned, and managed<\/li>\n<li data-font-name=\"g_d0_f1\" data-angle=\"0\" data-canvas-width=\"868.3868\">Data governance efforts, goals and objectives, priorities, decisions, and deliverables (procedures, processes, standards, policies, framework, etc.) are always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lightsondata.com\/3-communication-steps-for-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">communicated<\/a> and made available to the entire enterprise<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>What are the guiding principles of your data governance program?
