Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n It is important to define the time frame within which you would like to make changes in order to get to the future state. This information is not usually offered by the models, so as I mentioned in the lesson, depending what level you currently are at, give yourself enough time to make it feasible to produce meaningful change, but also not too long that the organization loses focus and confidence in the data governance efforts.<\/p>\n For the lower levels, organizations usually assign 12-18 months, and for the middle\/higher levels, it could be at least 24 months. Again, it depends on your resources, capabilities, support, and drivers.<\/p>\n Capabilities focus<\/strong><\/p>\n Most likely you will also not improve all of your data governance capabilities, but rather, chose those that rank at a higher importance than the rest.<\/p>\n Roadmap<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong>For deriving the roadmap out for your improvement step, I recommend extracting the following out of the previous steps and existing artifacts:<\/p>\n Based on the above and regardless of the maturity model that you are going for, I recommend categorizing them in the following groups:<\/p>\n Present these to the data governance program sponsor(s) and the Data Governance Council, if one exists, and determine what should be the priorities as you won’t be able to tackle them all at once.
