Specifically, on data governance maturity models, you might want to leverage them because of:<\/p>\n<h4>1. Business driver requirement<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Regulatory constraint &#8211; Ex: FIPPA, GDPR, CCPA, BASEL, etc. that require your data environment to be able to meet the demands of the regulations in order to avoid fines, jail time, reputation damage<\/li>\n<li>Organizational change &#8211; A merger, acquisition, consolidation of departments, business areas, etc. will need an evaluation of the maturity level of the data environment in order to see how to align the data governance organization, data management environment, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Business objective &#8211; Ex: Improving AI capabilities in marketing, launching a fundraising campaign, consolidating CRMs in order to obtain the &#8220;golden record&#8221; for your customer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2. Benchmarking<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Internal &#8211; There might be a reason that you want to benchmark parts of the data governance or data management program against different units and locations. Such as adopting a federated operating model for your data governance program<\/li>\n<li>External &#8211; Comparing against peer organizations in your industry or against your competition in order to minimize the threats and risks and maximize on the available opportunities and strengths.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>3. Strategy development<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Strategic plan &#8211; Obtain the insights and know-how needed to build an actionable strategic plan to increase the data capabilities in your organization<\/li>\n<li>SWOT &#8211; Derive the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as laid out by the maturity model in order to retain or gain the competitive advantage<\/li>\n<li>Prioritization &#8211; Helps prioritize the data governance areas that should be tackled first, since you have limited resources to focus into your program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>4. Communication<\/h4>\n<p>The maturity model is another tool in order to communicate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Historical progress&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Introspection<\/li>\n<li>Achievement &amp; progression&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the above, a data governance or a data management maturity model can help an organization figure out the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The maturity level of current data management by capturing and understanding your data processes via proper tools<\/li>\n<li>What appropriate qualitative measures and technologies could better structure the data and information, a company owns for bringing up the developing process to completion efficiently faster<\/li>\n<li>Managing, controlling, and documenting the data &amp; metadata management thereby helping the data stewards with their tasks<\/li>\n<li>Separating the redundant data from new and up-to-date data, while making sure the correct and accurate data is being used for any process<\/li>\n<li>Proper data privacy compliance with appropriate use and control of data pipelines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-empty=\"true\">The data management\/ governance maturity model thus plays a crucial role in making sure that data is trusted and that the organization is on the path to become more
