Capability Maturity Model (CMM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is a development model created after a study of data collected from organizations that contracted with the U.S. Department of Defense, who funded the research. <\/p>\n<p>The term &#8220;maturity&#8221; relates to the degree of formality and optimization of processes, from ad-hoc practices, to formally defined steps, to managed result metrics, to active optimization of the processes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h4>Levels of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM):<\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"\">Level 1: Initial<\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">The software process is characterised as ad hoc, and occasionally even chaotic;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">few processes are defined<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">success depends on individual effort and heroics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"\">Level 2: Repeatable<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">Basic project management processes are established to track cost, schedule, and functionality<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">The necessary process discipline is in place to repeat earlier successes on projects with similar applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"\">Level 3: Defined<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">The software process for both management and engineering activities is documented, standardized and integrated into a standard software process for the organisation<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">All projects use an approved, tailored version of the organisation\u2019s standard software process for developing and maintaining software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"\">Level 4: Managed<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">Detailed measures of the software process and product quality are collected<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">Both the software process and products are quantitatively understood and controlled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"\">Level 5: Optimizing<\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">Continuous process improvement is enabled by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">Quantitative feedback from the process and&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 13px !important;\">From piloting innovative ideas and
